Enhancement to Salt Stress Tolerance in Strawberry Plants by Iodine Products Application

Iodine is a non-essential element for land plants, but considered as beneficial element, related to antioxidant capacity, environmental adaptations and improvement of plant growth. Salinity one the more recurrent abiotic stresses worldwide, seriously affecting vegetal production. The aim this work was evaluate iodine application (Q products® KIO3, Quimcasa de México, Naucalpan, Mexico) in strawberry plants under normal salt stress conditions. Growth, content, essential minerals, accumulation fruit quality were evaluated. results showed that, conditions, Q products increased ascorbate peroxidase (APX) catalase (CAT) activity well glutathione (GSH) content yield fruit, without avoiding biomass loss; with KIO3 an increase GSH APX P K concentrations obtained. In leaves P, Ca, Mn evidenced products, concentration ascorbic acid treatments. Under conditions fruits, phenolic compounds synthesis; additionally, Ca shown. firmness Mn. leaves, chlorophyll a, b calcium. conclusion, improves value strawberries provides enhancement tolerance.
